Türkiye MOSAIC MUSEUMS
ANTAKYA MUSEUM MOSAICS
It is exhibited in the museum in the city center of Antakya. The museum where these magnificent mosaics are exhibited is the second prominent museum in the world in this field. (The first museum is the Tunis-Bardo Museum) The mosaics in this museum: 2nd and 3rd centuries. The subjects covered in the mosaics are: Apollo, Eros, Satyros, Satyros, Aphrodite, Baccus, etc., mythological heroes and scenes from daily life.
These mosaics in the museum: They were found on the floor of some villas in the Roman settlement in the Harbiye town of Hatay province. It is thought to date from the 3rd or 4th century.
IZMIR-EFES-HILLSIDE HOUSES MOSAICS
Although the excavations in Ephesus, which have been going on for about 100 years, have generally been carried out in official residences, in recent years, excavations have also been carried out in the places where people lived in the Ephesus region. The main center of these excavations is the “Slope Houses” section. The floors of the hillside houses are completely covered with mosaics. These mosaics are characteristic of the Roman period and are generally black and white with geometric patterns. However, it is understood that these mosaics were repaired from time to time due to the use of stones of different colors and different sizes.

ISTANBUL-KARİYE MOSAICS
In Istanbul, which is now open to visitors as the Kariye Museum: Byzantine period church. The mosaics here date from the 14th century. In other words, the most beautiful examples of the last periods of Byzantine mosaic art are here.
GAZIANTEP-ZEUGMA MOSAICS
During the excavations in the ancient city of Zeugma, located within the borders of Gaziantep-Nizap district: In the Roman settlement established here, magnificent beautiful mosaics were found on the floors and walls of houses and baths. Especially: mosaics were found in the hillside villas in the settlement area. The total area of the mosaics found in area A alone: 1000 square meters. In other words: Zeugma is known as a mosaic city. Because: the city was located at the intersection of roads and at the same time had the characteristics of a trade and garrison city. For this reason, famous artists of the period preferred the city and created magnificent examples of mosaic art here. The city's secure and wealthy status also caused artists to flock here.
Mosaics: Dating from the 2nd to the 4th century. The most prominent feature of these mosaics is the use of millimetric glass pieces in the places where the mosaics are desired to shine, so that these parts shine when the light hits them. The use of glazed ceramics in the mosaics here is also at a high level. The most beautiful works of the period are found here. Especially: “Gypsy Girl” mosaic stands out with its magnificent beauty.
In these mosaics: mythological personalities, gods, goddesses, legendary people and sections of their lives are seen.
Zeugma mosaics are now exhibited in Gaziantep Museum. These mosaics stand out as the most famous mosaic collection in the world.
ISTANBUL-AYA IRINI CHURCH MOSAICS
With the adoption of Christianity, only the “Cross” was allowed to be painted in mosaic. For this reason: In the church of St. Irini, a mosaic cross can be seen on the half dome of the apse. This cross dates from the 8th century.
SANLIURFA HALEPLIBAHÇE MOSAICS
Sanliurfa city walls: Daysan Creek section. The mosaics date from the 5th century. The subjects covered in the mosaics: Amazon queens, the warrior heroes of Greek mythology. Especially: It is interesting to find these mosaics of Greek mythology so far east of Anatolia.
ADANA MOSAICS
It is 26 km. away from Adana city center on the old silk road. Mosaic: It is inside a basilica. It was made in the 4th century. The composition: A henhouse and 23 birds and poultry taken on board by the Prophet Noah at the time of the flood are seen around it.
